Travis Diener will lead the Golden Eagles as they look to repeat in The Basketball Tournament.

The Golden Eagles, The Basketball Tournament defending champions are back!

The Golden Eagles return to The Basketball Tournament to defend their crown! The Golden Eagles have an all-time 19-4 mark in this event, having finished runner-up in 2019 before capturing the crown last summer.

Nine players return from last year’s winning squad – Andrew Rowsey, Derrick Wilson, Dwight Buycks, Elgin Cook, Jamil Wilson, Jarvis Williams, Luke Fischer, Maurice Acker, and Travis Diener.

The Basketball Tournament organizers have seeded them first in the Illinois region and deservedly so. The defending champions deserve some respect, especially with so many players returning.

  • July 25, 2021 – 4:00 pm vs B1 Ballers

Team Outlook:

The Golden Eagles, primarily made up of Marquette alumni, are the defending champions of The Basketball Tournament. Who can forget how they claimed the $1 million prize last year…Cue Mr. Deiner and the Elam Ending shot!

When you take the eight returnees and add in Vander Blue, this team expects to make a title defense. Blue has played 10 NBA games and is the second-leading scorer in G League history. He can flat-out score and will be a handful for opposing defenses in this tournament.

An Illinois Regional final against two-seed House of Paign, made up mostly of Illinois basketball alumni would fit into the MUST-WATCH category.
