So far this season, college basketball has been wide open. Nobody is the clear front runner and anyone could win the NCAA Tournament right now. Here are a few of the best and worse teams following non-conference play.

Best: Gonzaga

So far this season, Gonzaga has proved that they are one of the toughest teams in college basketball. They have a tough non-conference schedule and only have one loss. Mark Few is one of the best coaches in college basketball and has a chance to lead this team to their first ever national championship.

Worst: Texas A&M

The Aggies have not beaten anybody in the top 25 yet this season. They have also lost two bad games to Harvard and Fairfield. If they continue to play like this then they won’t be playing in any postseason games. They have a chance at finishing in last place in the SEC.

Best: Ohio State

Coming into the season, the Ohio State Buckeyes had some hype. But they have proved that they deserve way more. They have had a strong schedule and played very well in all their games. If they wouldn’t have lost to Minnesota, they would be the clear front runner in college basketball right now. If they keep this up, they have a shot to be the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Worst: East Carolina

For the past few years, East Carolina has struggled. This season, it hasn’t been getting any better. They have lost to quite mid-majors so far this season and it probably won’t be getting any better.

Best: Oregon

Although they have lost two games, Oregon has been one of the most impressive teams to me. They are very skilled with a lot of leadership. Oregon only lost to Gonzaga by one point in overtime and Gonzaga is the number one ranked team in the country. Oregon has a great chance to win the Pac-12 and make a tournament run.

Worst: Tulsa

Tulsa is another one of those teams that has struggled over the past few years. They haven’t been able to make a name for themselves and they don’t make any noise against teams in the conference. Nothing has changed this year. Tulsa has only played against one power five opponent and still has four losses. They have lost two home games to mid major schools. For them to make a name for themselves, they will need some big time conference wins.
