I had an opportunity to have a nice conversation with 2019 Virginia commit Kadin Shedrick. Shedrick, from Holly Springs, North Carolina, is a 6’11” 200 lb forward who has earned a 4 star rating from 247, has elite wing talent in a forward build, bringing versatility to Tony Bennett’s top defense and rising offense.

Shedrick, who joins Casey Morsell as Virginia’s two 2019 signees, has a unique story development wise. He began high school around 6’3” and shot up junior year. He has had to develop forward skill but still retains his wing play from his earlier years playing.

Shedrick and I spoke about his relationship with the program, his skills and impact next season, and what he likes about the University.

Me: What drew you to Virginia? What did you see in UVa that was not available at other schools interested in you?

Kadin: What drew me to Virginia was the history of the program. Virginia basketball has a very successful program. The development factor was also big to me.

Me: How did Coach Bennett contact you, and what has your relationship with him and the coaching staff been like through the recruiting process?

Kadin: Coach Bennett called me to offer me. My relationship with him along with Coach Vandross and Coach Williford has grown over time.

Me: What aspect of your game are you most excited to showcase in college?

Kadin: I’m excited to show my ability to stretch the floor and change the game.

Me: What’s your relationship like with Casey Morsell? Have you two been in touch?

Kadin: Casey and I have a good relationship. We talk every now and then and we’ll both be at the Virginia vs Duke game

Me: How have you been adjusting to your growth in the past few years? I know you have been a wing for most of your life, and now with forward size, is it difficult learning a new style?

Kadin: It hasn’t been that hard to adjust into being a forward. I’ve enjoyed the process and enjoy the position.

Me: What do you most look forward to next year in college?

Kadin: I look forward to getting better on the court next year in college. I hope to get much stronger and put on weight, along with continuing my skill.

Shedrick will join all but one of the current Virginia roster (pending transfers/draft declarations) and will have an immediate impact on one of the top teams in the nation.
