The Maui Invitational, is one of the best tournaments that kick off the College Basketball season in sunny Hawaii; however, this year the Maui Invitational will be in Asheville, North Carolina.
The Tournament has 8 teams set to play starting November 30th all the way up to December 2nd. Tournament Chairman Dave Odom said, “Each year, the Maui Jim Maui Invitational prides itself on bringing the best college basketball talent to the island of Maui. 2020 is no different, with the Lahaina Civic Center hosting some of the game’s most historic programs of all time.”
Providence Friars play Indiana. This is the Friars third Maui Invitational, and they last appeared in 1991 and won the inaugural Tournament in 1984. In 1990, the Indiana Hoosiers first joined the Maui Invitational, and since then they have been invited 6 times. This year, they are looking to win their second Maui Invitational Title.
North Carolina plays UNLV. The Tar Heels look to win their 5th Maui Invitational tournament; which will tie them with Duke for the most tournament wins. For UNLV, this is the Runnin Rebels 4th invite to Maui, and they have come up empty handed each year. But this year can be different for UNLV.
Texas is 7-5 in Maui and are competing for the 5th time in program history. Playing the Longhorns, the Davidson Wildcats will appear in their 2nd Maui Invitational; the last time they participated was back in 1984.
Stanford will be making their 4th appearance in the Tournament and their latest one coming in 2004. Alabama Crimson Tide played in Maui in 2008, when they had a record of 2-1 in the Tournament.
What better way to start the highly anticipated College Basketball season with some of the best teams in history all competing in the Maui Invitational!
