The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 206 is Saint Peter’s basketball.

Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on Saint Peter’s basketball

Did any Cinderella have more motion than Saint Peter’s basketball did in its 2022 run to the Elite 8. Head coach Shaheen Holloway had the Peacocks believing they belonged there – upsetting 2-seed Kentucky, 7-seed Murray State, and 3-seed Purdue, before getting bounced by 8-seed North Carolina. It set up Sha for his homecoming at Seton Hall, and the Peacocks gained a lasting March Madness memory.

While it was unlike anything the small Jersey City institution had ever experienced before, it wasn’t the only good moment in the school’s history. They had previously been to the big dance in 1991, 1995, and 2011, going again in 2024. In 2017, the Peacocks won a different postseason tournament, capturing the 2017 CIT title over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The program also had some great seasons a while back, going to the NIT semifinals in 1968, and the quarterfinals in 1969 and 1980.

It’s also fun to note that, as of the 2026 offseason, according to Sports Reference, Saint Peter’s is a perfect 888-888 all-time. That’s as consistent as it comes!

Surprisingly, just two former Peacocks have won the MAAC Player of the Year. William Brown got the honor in 1982, and Keydran Clark in 2006. It is worth noting that KC Ndefo was the conference’s Defensive POY in 2020, 2021, and 2022, before following Holloway to the Hall.

Without their Elite 8 run, we probably would have had Saint Peter’s as a sub-250 program. But it was a special run that no one can ever take away, and will always be on repeat in New Jersey every March Madness.
