UConn Basketball Finishes Strong at Hinkle to take down Butler 80-70.

Butler and UConn basketball have no shortage of history in their all-time series and fans of both sides need no reminder of it. The first time these programs ever played each other came in Houston at the 2011 National Championship game, which saw Jim Calhoun bring home his third title with the Huskies. The eleven matchups to follow have all gone the same way as Butler continues to search for their first win over the Huskies.

In their first matchup in Hartford, UConn basketball dominated the glass by outrebounding Butler 43 to 27. The second matchup in Indianapolis started similarly as the Huskies attacked the offensive glass as 8 of their first 13 points were second chance points.

The first half had multiple lead changes as Butler gave the Huskies defense lots of trouble with great ball movement to find their weak spots. The Bulldogs even had more assists than UConn at the end of the first half which feels like quite the rare occurrence. After a late turnover by Butler, UConn basketball took a 41-38 lead into the break.

The second half was all UConn basketball as they increased their assists, reduced their turnovers, and didn’t give up the lead one time. Solo Ball shot the lights out in the second half going 4 for 7 from three point range and Tarris Reed Jr. did a bit of everything by adding 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists all in the second half.

For most of the time, Butler played well and kept it a one or two possession game. Then the Huskies got hot and went on a 10-0 scoring run to pull ahead with just over 4 minutes left in the game. Things only got worse for Butler as shortly after that killshot, Finley Bizjack left the game with an apparent wrist injury and was brought back into the locker room.

What was overall a good showing for the Bulldogs ended in despair as they fall to 4-10 in Big East play.

UConn basketball extends their undefeated record against Butler to 13-0 as they begin to enter the homestretch of the regular season.

Solo Ball Got his Swagger Back

Wednesday night’s game at Hinkle Fieldhouse was just the third time this season Solo Ball has shot 50% from three and the first time since December 16th. If he can build off this performance then Ball’s jump shot can make this UConn basketball offense even more lethal.

Whether it’s been a nagging wrist injury or something mental, everyone can agree that something has been off with Solo and it just feels so good to see him find success with his jumper.

Braylon’s (First Half) Homecoming

Indiana’s reigning Mr. Basketball got to play in front of his friends and family in Indiana for the first time since moving to the college game. Braylon Mullins certainly played with some extra motivation in the first half as he finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

The second half was quiet for Braylon, but that’s due to the shear amount of talent on this team. There are a lot of mouths to feed in this offense and Braylon understands that he sometimes has to take a step back in order to get everyone involved.
