Michigan basketball’s frontcourt took center stage in a commanding 91-79 victory over Texas A&M, securing the Wolverines’ sixth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance.

The not-so-gentle giants overpowered the nation’s best offensive rebounding team, using their size and physicality to control the game on both ends of the floor.

Leading the charge for Michigan basketball was 7-foot-1 center Vladislav Goldin, who posted a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Goldin’s efficiency was on full display, sinking 9 of 11 free throws while making his presence felt defensively with three blocks. His ability to control the paint neutralized Texas A&M’s rebounding advantage, helping Michigan dictate the tempo.

Danny Wolf, Michigan’s 7-foot junior, nearly notched a double-double of his own, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. He also contributed four assists and three blocks, proving to be a versatile force in the Wolverines’ frontcourt.

As a team, the Wolverines outworked Texas A&M on the glass, grabbing 16 offensive rebounds and 32 defensive boards, winning the rebounding battle against some of the best in the game.

“Coach gave us a great understanding of who they are and what they do,” said Goldin. “It’s just a mindset.”

Goldin’s stellar performance pushed his season totals past 600 points and 250 rebounds. He also sits just one block away from reaching 50 on the year.

The senior big man followed head coach Dusty May from FAU to Michigan, a decision rooted in trust and loyalty.

“I chose to be here because of the relationship we built together, and that’s something I personally take pride in,” said Goldin. “I am happy to be his player.”

Coach May admires him for his passion for the game and his impact beyond the stat sheet.

“It’s more about his work ethic and character,” said coach May. “Who he is, his love for his teammates and the loyalty to everyone around him. That’s where I wanted to start this program” … “and I thought this place would be really good for him.”

With the win, Michigan basketball moves on to the Sweet 16, where they will face the winner of 1-seed Auburn vs. 9-seed Creighton in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena.

If Auburn advances, Michigan’s backcourt will need to rise to the occasion against the Tigers’ high-powered offense, which averages 83.8 points per game.

After handling business in Denver, the Wolverines are just two wins away from punching their ticket to the Final Four.
