Q/A with Antonio Daye, FIU Commit
Antonio Daye is a PG from Durham, North Carolina, who recently committed to FIU for the class of 2019. A 2-star recruit on ‘Composite’, Daye plays his high school ball at famous IMG Academy.
Notable basketball players who also attended IMG are Earl Clark, Trevon Duval, and Anfernee Simons.
We decided to catch up with Antonio:
What are you looking forward to the most at FIU?
Antonio: I’m most looking forward to being an immediate impact and to be able to help my team have a winning season and get to the NCAA Tournament.
Great! We’ll be wishing you guys lots of success. So who do you attribute your success to?
Antonio: I attribute my success to God, because without him none of this would even be possible for me! Also, my mother and sister, because they have been here for me through everything.
That’s great to hear! Taking it back to basketball, when did you know you would be a D1 athlete, or did you always have it in the back of your head?
Antonio: I’ve always thought I could be a Division 1 athlete. I just didn’t know it would be basketball, because I was a football guy up until about 9th grade!
Awesome! What advice can you give to kids that want to play D1?
Antonio: I would tell a kid that wants to play D1 at any sport that you have to put in a lot of work and make sacrifices. You also have to carry yourself in a good manor on and off the court.
