West Virginia escaped Norman Monday night with a key Big 12 road win, one that will go a long way for Bob Huggins’ squad. Controlling the majority of the game, WVU’s largest lead was 11, but OU hung around and had a chance to win it late. WVU was led by an unusual face in Lamont West, as he led the Mountaineers in scoring with 17 points.
West Virginia entered the locker room leading 50-40, but started the second half ice cold, giving the Sooners a chance to sneak back into the game.
Trae Young had a usual scoring night, dropping 32 points on 10-20 shooting. The outlier in Young’s game Monday night was his passing. Young finished the night with only 1 assist, with it coming under 2:00 minutes on a pass to Khadeem Lattin to cut the Mountaineer lead to 3.
Oklahoma had a chance to tie or win the game late, but a layup by OU’s Rashard Odomes rimmed out.
The Sooners fall to 16-7 overall and 6-5 in the Big 12. OU finishes off the week on the road in Hilton against Iowa State on Saturday (1:00 PM ESPN)
