The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 292 is Delaware basketball.
Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on Delaware basketball
You may not think of Delaware basketball as a high-end mid-major program, but the Fightin’ Blue Hens actually have six trips to the NCAA Tournament in their history.
The first two happened back-to-back in 1992 and 1993 with Steve Steinwedel as the head coach. The 1993 team nearly upset 4-seed Louisville in the first round, falling 76-70.
In 1998 and 1999, up-and-coming head coach Mike Brey led Delaware to two more tourneys.
Delaware waited a while between their next two, with Monte Ross coaching them back to the big dance in 2014, and Martin Ingelsby taking them there in 2022.
All six of those teams that went to the NCAA Tournament finished with at least 20 wins, something the program has accomplished nine times total.
Delaware never reached March Madness with Taurence Chisholm, but he’s a player to brag about, ranking 26th all-time in assists, with 877 in his career.
While Delaware had its best and most consistent years in the 1990s, the program recently took a leap, joining Conference USA for the 2025-26 season. They only finished with 10 wins, but it’s a notable move as they look to become a stronger overall program in the near future.
