The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 344 is Kennesaw State basketball.
Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on Kennesaw State basketball
For a while, Kennesaw State was to the 2010s what Mississippi Valley State is to the current college hoops landscape. They couldn’t even scratch the surface, and you really wondered if they even belonged at the mid-major D1 level.
And it wasn’t much better when Amir Abdur-Rahim was hired. 1-28 in 2019-20. 5-19 the following year. But in year four, he took the Owls dancing, and better yet, they gave 3-seed Xavier a run for their money, only losing by five points. Of course, Abdur-Rahim passed away at a very young age, and it was a sad loss for the college basketball community. But his presence hasn’t left KSU, as the Owls continue to be a major player in the Atlantic Sun.
Since joining Conference-USA in 2024, they’ve enjoyed two straight winning seasons under Antoine Pettway. That led to another trip to the big dance this season, in a 21-14 campaign.
Kennesaw State basketball is proof that even the worst programs can find a way out with the right coach. And we’re seeing that in real time right now.
