The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 358 is The Citadel basketball.

Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on The Citadel basketball

The Citadel has been playing basketball for a whopping 114 years, but it has still never made the NCAA Tournament. It’s one of the most unfortunate stories in college hoops, and the end doesn’t seem in sight after an 11-22 campaign in 2025-26.

Still, a trio of Bulldogs players has been named Player of the Year in the Southern Conference – Rodney McKeever in 1975-76 and Regan Truesdale in 1983-84 and again in 84-85.

McKeever averaged 20.5 points per game in the season he won POY, but actually put up 23.0 per game the year prior. However, he didn’t play his senior year because the school actually kicked him out after lying to a professor. Yes, the Citadel is that strict.

Truesdale did play both his junior and senior years and remains the second-leading scorer in program history. He never played in the NBA, but did enjoy a two-year career in the Continental Basketball Association.

Finally, Cameron Wells is the school’s all-time leading scorer, with 2,049 career points across four seasons in Charleston, S.C.

Who knows if The Citadel can ever get any sort of momentum going and make the Big Dance, because since the beginning of time, they’ve pretty much always been a bottom-feeder in the SoCon. But mad props for sticking with it all these years!
