The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 359 is Sacramento State basketball.
Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on Sacramento State basketball
The Hornets have been playing D1 hoops since 1991 and still haven’t reached the NCAA Tournament. Of course, eyes are on Sac State with new head coach Mike Bibby and some backing from the one and only Shaquille O’Neal.
Historically speaking, they’ve had a rough go of things, not even having a double-digit win season until 2002-03, which was their 11th season in Division I. Their one and ONLY 20-win season came in 2014-15, as they went 21-12 and 13-5 in the Big Sky Conference. That was during the Brian Katz era, which saw promise, but never really turned into anything. They also had the Big Sky Player of the Year in 2015, with Mikh McKinney winning that award.
Even though it’s been a very bad overall time since joining DI, with Shaq as the General Manager, it seems like some winning might be on the horizon for the Hornets.
