Tucker DeVries is a very important part of this Indiana team, and he’s not slowing down anytime soon.

The Indiana Hoosiers are off to a hot start, and they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. They currently have a perfect record, sitting at 4-0, and are doing a lot of good things on both ends of the court. With a team made up primarily of all transfers, they are showing a lot of chemistry and connection. One of these transfers is Tucker DeVries, who has proved early on to be a vital part of this new Indiana roster.

Tucker DeVries comes to Indiana in a more unique situation than most. His dad, Darian DeVries, was named the new head coach of Indiana basketball back in March. Shortly after, Tucker committed to Indiana. The two come from West Virginia University, where they each spent the 2024-25 season. Tucker only played eight games at West Virginia as he missed the majority of the season due to injury. However, his return to play has been excellent, and he has quickly made his mark on this Indiana team.

DeVries is currently averaging 17.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on the season. He is shooting 47.1% from the field and 45.5% from beyond the arc. In his first game with the Hoosiers against Alabama A&M, he reached his 2,000 career point milestone, and with the momentum from that, he’s been able to be a prominent leader for Indiana.

In their game against Marquette, the team had a strong performance all around and showcased a lot of the potential this squad has. They walked away with a 100-77 win, and at the helm of this success was Tucker DeVries. He led the way in scoring, finishing with 27 points and going 6-for-9 from the 3-point line. He also recorded two assists and five rebounds. DeVries played with confidence and aggression, allowing him to make movements and plays on offense. These traits have become very characteristic of him, especially as this Indiana team begins to find its identity. Following the game against Marquette, Tucker explained how he was able to have such a strong game.

“It’s really just staying in the moment, just still playing within the offense, and then as you get going, you’re starting to feel more confident in what you’re doing,” DeVries said.

Another thing that has been consistent so far for the Hoosiers is the duo of Lamar Wilkerson and Tucker DeVries. Wilkerson, a Sam Houston transfer, is currently averaging 18.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. The two are a good balance on the court, which has been a strong suit for Indiana, especially on offense. In a press conference after the Alabama A&M win, Wilkerson explained that he and DeVries also have a good relationship off the court.

“So from the jump, we’ve always been close. He’s always been that guy that you can call on to help you learn the system, help you learn how his pops wants us to play. So, we’ve been tight,” Wilkerson said.

In Indiana’s most recent game against Incarnate Word, they had a bit of a slower performance on the offense. However, DeVries still recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. He will look to continue this success for him and his Hoosiers squad as they take on Lindenwood in Assembly Hall at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
