The Primetime at the Palace scrimmage that took place on Oct. 3 in Bud Walton Arena was the perfect showcase to highlight player talent, versatility, and generate excitement among fans for this upcoming season of Arkansas basketball.
The Razorbacks are currently ranked 14th in the AP Preseason poll and are expected to have a deep tournament run.Â
1. Trevon Brazile’s breakout season is on the horizon
As the longest-tenured Razorback, all eyes were on Trevon Brazile. Brazile delivered, winning the dunk contest with an incredible slam dunk over teammate Elmir Dzafic. Brazile was described as a leader and showed poise and mature decision-making, slight improvements from last season. After dealing with injuries and inconsistent time on the court, Brazile looks ready to lead and be a source of stability among this team.Â
2. Versatility on the frontcourtÂ
Last season, we got used to watching the Razorbacks lean heavily on their guards to initiate offensive plays, but during the scrimmage, things may be changing. Malique Ewin and Nick Pringle handled the ball with confidence and added a layer of unpredictability to the team that is exciting to watch. Freshmen Isaiah Sealy and Darius Acuff were impressive all around with their playmaking and ball handling. This kind of offense puts a certain willingness to trust the frontcourt and has buzz and excitement around this year’s dynamic offense.Â
3. Overall roster confidence
The tone of the night overall was oozing with confidence. Defense showed up at the rim, and offense showed up with hard drives to the basket and finished with authority. This year, fans of this particular group feel different. They sense a noticeable edge to the team, mixed with seasoned veterans who have been to the tournament before, as well as freshmen who matched the buzz going on around them.Â
