Harrisonburg, VA — Two games and a trip to the James Madison Regional Finals on the line. And in less than 48 hours, a team will move on in The Basketball Tournament.
But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Here’s what happened in the James Madison Regional’s Round of 32 in The Basketball Tournament.
(2) Shell Shock 81, (3) Red Rose Thunder 78
Shell Shock nearly had its tournament journey end in the Elam Ending after relinquishing what once was a 18-point lead. The Maryland alumni group were in full force through the first two quarters, frustrating a fast Red Rose Thunder squad that couldn’t get a rhythm flowing consistently.
The Red Rose Thunder shot just 36.8% from the field throughout the game, but the number grew in the final quarter. The Philadelphia-based team — much like their first game — found their offensive groove in the late stages.
Shell Shock’s Diamond Stone dropped 16 points in the first half and ended the game with 23. He was joined by Darryl Morsell, who trailed the leader scorer with 18 points of his own. Morsell made the game-winning fadeaway shot after Red Rose Thunder made one of two free throws to close the game to a one-score game.

The former @TerrapinHoops legend did it all for @TBTTerps in the first half, with 16 points and three 3-pointers!

Shell Shock’s Regional Final appearance matches University of Maryland’s Sweet Sixteen appearance from last season, too.
(5) NXT ERA Elite 70, (8) Raleigh 919 Legends 44
A battle between a newly re-invented squad and an entirely brand new participant, NXT ERA Elite reigned supreme just with how much stamina its roster had.
Neither team shot well from the floor. In fact, neither team shot above 40% the entire game. But despite the subpar overall performance, NXT ERA Elite’s Ahmad Gilbert, Sage Tolbert and Yusuf Mohamed all surpassed double figures against Raleigh 919 Legends.

The Legends squad couldn’t keep up with NXT ERA’s fast-paced offense, and quickly grew frustrated on the court in the second half. Tempers flared enough that Raleigh forward Addison Spruill was given a technical foul after he turned the ball over.
Raleigh 919 Legend still holds the bragging rights of taking down the James Madison Regional’s top seed in the opening round — a feat that both Shell Shock and NXT ERA Elite can take full advantage of in the Regional Final. But the North Carolina-based squad won’t get to reap the benefits of a win they easily sowed just 48 hours earlier.
