Dunkin’ Dogs, the Louisiana Tech alumni team, make their TBT debut in hopes of making Bulldog fans proud.
Since 2012, the Louisiana Tech basketball program have enjoyed a lot of success. They’ve won 20+ games in all but two seasons, and made it all the way to the NIT Semifinals in 2020-2021. Now, the Dunkin’ Dogs look to replicate that success in TBT play. It’s a new experience, but they have the same goal: winning the national championship.

Team MVP: Alex Hamilton
Hamilton is second all-time in scoring for Louisiana Tech, with 1986 points. While he never replicated that overseas, he’s still a talented scorer and will immediately be the leader of this team, like he was back at La Tech. Hamilton is a good defender as well, and will create a few turnovers, which could be the difference between a win or loss.
Dunkin’ Dogs don’t have a ton of TBT experience, so they’ll look to him to ease the learning adjustment. If he can do so, Dunkin’ Dogs can make a run in a top-heavy region.
Make-or-Break Player: Tyree Appleby
It didn’t matter where Appleby went; he was going to score buckets. He scored 2174 points in college and averaged 18.8 PPG in his senior season at Wake Forest. He started 131 games in college, and not only was he scoring, but also passing the ball well, averaging 6.4 APG during that senior season.
Appleby could be a star in this tournament, but he’s taken a step back in the last two years. Whether that’s a performance issue or an adjustment issue, we’ll see. Defensively, he’s extremely scrappy as well, and he could take out the opponent’s top guard, which is essential in this guard-heavy region. So, which Appleby will we see? We might not get the star in game one, but if Dunkin’ Dogs can survive and advance, he might be a breakout star.
Team Outlook
Dunkin’ Dogs take on Tampa Florida Pickup Basketball in Round One, another team making their debut. With a win, they most likely face Eberlein Drive and then La Familia. Both of those teams would be heavy favorites against the Dunkin’ Dogs, but in a single elimination tournament, all that matters is who is better that day.
Another player to note is Keith Clanton. Clanton is a rebounding machine and can be a bully down low. Last year he played for Florida TNT and averaged 9.5 PPG and 9.0 RPG. Hopefully, the fans will show to Lexington. It’s not a short drive, but fandom stops at nothing, and having the opportunity to watch fan favorites is worth the trip.
