Florida DRC, a duo of former TBT teams, hopes that two is better than one.

Last year, Team DRC pulled off arguably the biggest upset of the tournament, beating one-seed Team Diesel in the first round as an eight seed. They weren’t done yet, shocking the five seed to advance to the regional final before they would finally bow out.

Florida TNT, meanwhile, won their first game last year as the three seed, but couldn’t get past Mass Street in Round 2. Now, the two teams merge in hopes that the best of both will result in a deep run. Will that be the case, or is it too much of a good thing for this Florida DRC team?

First Matchup: vs. Team 901 (July 19 at 7 p.m. EST)

Team MVP: Chris Warren

Warren is no stranger to TBT, playing in the tournament the last few years. He is a terrific scorer and showcased that in last year’s tournament, scoring 27 points on 10-17 shooting in Florida TNT’s win in round 1. He took a step back in round 2, but that first game showcases that when he’s hot, there are few players in this tournament that can stop him.

Florida DRC is very forward-heavy, and they’ll look to Warren to be a facilitator and a leader on the court. He’s not going to give you ten assists, but the attention he’ll get from the opposing defense will open up the game for the rest of the team and give them the best chance to succeed.

Make-or-break Player: Jordan Sears

It’s always fun seeing guys who just finished their college careers suiting up in this tournament. In 2023-2024, Sears finished 7th in the country in PPG, and just 0.2 PPG behind 4th place. At LSU, he took a step back in the scoring department, but was still the second-leading scorer on his team, which played in the best conference in college basketball.

As mentioned earlier, this roster doesn’t have many guards. At the moment, it’s him, Warren, and Ikeon Smith. So, they’re putting a lot of trust in Sears, and he can step into that moment. If he adjusts to the different style of play of TBT, then him and Warren can be a deadly backcourt. The big thing for him will be three-point shooting. In that prolific season at UT Martin, he shot 43% from three. Last year, 31.7%. If he can find something in the middle, he could be a key player for Florida DRC.

Team Outlook

One thing that makes this team dangerous is its forward depth. Florida DRC has three guys standing at 6’10, and a good balance between threes and fours. One to watch is Bryce Beamer, who scored 18 points in Team DRC’s first-round win against Team Diesel last year.

They’ll face Team 901 in Round One, a team they should have no problem beating. In Round 2, a potential rematch for DRC against Team Diesel. After that, another potential rematch for DRC against The Ville. Florida DRC would like nothing more than to get their revenge on both and eventually go all the way to the championship.
