After three tries, DaGuys STL is still searching for the team’s first win in The Basketball Tournament.

DaGuys STL made their debut in 2022 and almost had an immediate impact, losing by just three points to the two seed. They came into year 2 looking to build off of that, and had a less favorable result, losing by 13 as the seven seed. Last year, another seven seed for the team, and they were dealt a 14-point loss.

With over 91,000 followers on Instagram and 57,000 on YouTube, this team is without a doubt the most popular in the tournament. Hopefully, they’ll have days’ worth of content to show for it.

For the first time, they are a five seed, and they came ready for the moment, bringing in, without a doubt, their most talented team. Is this the year the curse is broken? We’ll find out shortly.

First Matchup: vs. B. Braun Sheffield Sharks (July 19 at 6 p.m. EST)

Team MVP: Jordan Barnett

After a 15-point, nine-rebound game in their 2023 loss, Barnett came back even stronger last year, totalling 19 points and 9 rebounds in the loss. At this rate, we should see a 23-point, 9-rebound game this time around. He can get into the lane, but also hit from deep, going 3-6 last year. They’re going to put the ball in his hands as much as possible, and he’s up for the challenge.

Make-or-break Player: Isiah Mosley

Mosley didn’t participate in last year’s TBT, but two years ago, he played for Show me Squad, and was phenomenal, averaging 24 points a game to go with 6.5 RPG and 4 APG. He’s a tall guard at 6’5, and an extremely gifted scorer. If he can replicate anything close to what we saw in 2023, he could be one of the more dangerous players in this tournament.

Mosley grew up in Columbia, Missouri, just under 2 hours from Kansas City, so expect a home crowd for him. The duo of him and Barnett might be too much for any team to compete with early on.

Team Outlook

DaGuys STL gets an interesting draw, taking on B. Braun Sheffield Sharks in the first round. Being a professional team, this could be one of the worst seeded teams in the tournament, which is bad luck for DaGuys. They’re also new to TBT, though, so DaGuys’ three-year experience could play to their advantage here.

If they win that one and end the streak, they won’t have much time to celebrate, because they’ll most likely play Heartfire, the team who won it all two years ago. No matter what, the draw is tough, but they came ready with the most talented team in their four-year history.

Besides Barnett and Mosely, they add two giant pieces in Wes Clark and Gibson Jimmerson. Clark was part of the 2022 championship team, Blue Collar U, and was named to the All-Tournament team. Gibson Jimmerson, meanwhile, is a five-year starter at Saint Louis and is coming off a 17.7 PPG season for the Bilikens. The Bommarito brothers might not have an impact on the court, but they’ll bring a ton of energy off of it.

The Kansas City region is loaded, but DaGuys STL has the pieces to shock the tournament.
