Under one of the biggest microscopes in college basketball, John Calipari has propelled Arkansas basketball into an NBA-caliber team. With his recruiting skills and impressive resume, he has been able to turn his roster of five-star recruits into household names.

John Calipari’s first year at Arkansas is mentioned as some of the best coaching in his career, with the Razorbacks going 22-19 this past year, being ranked ninth in the SEC, and making it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

But with standout players like Adou Theiro, Boogie Fland, and Zvonimir Ivisic either transferring or entering into the draft, it leaves fans wondering how the next season will go. Calipari will have to raise the bar in these areas for an either further championship run in 2025-26.

1. Recruiting

It is no secret coach Cal is well known for his strategic and impressive recruiting. With multiple five-stars already committed to play for Arkansas basketball, Calipari will have to fit each puzzle piece together and form that team chemistry that is essential to a playoff level team.

Darius Acuff Jr., a top ranked point guard from IMG Academy, was an exhilarating addition for the team. As a McDonald’s All-American, Acuff has a plethora of tools at his disposal and is a versatile player, and I believe he will be a great asset to Arkansas.

2. Championship Experience

John Calipari has made 23 NCAA Tournaments with four different programs, reaching six Final Fours and winning it all with Kentucky in 2012.

After beating the Kansas Jayhawks in the tournament this past March, he was recognized as having the most NCAA Tournament wins among active coaches with 58 wins. With his ability to adapt quickly and inspire those on the team and recruits, it brings energy and a “Nothing Easy” mentality to everyone and makes them an exciting team to watch every game.

3. Momentum

Arkansas basketball was recently put on ESPN’s list as a possible favorite to win it all in 2026. This kind of momentum behind them from fans, the University of Arkansas, and other sports outlets like Sports Illustrated, brings a buzz of winning culture to the team.

This past tournament run, the Razorbacks coined the name as “America’s Team” after defeating the notorious Rick Pitino and the Red Storm of St. John’s. This kind of positive attention can help propel the team to start out great and end in a possible championship run.
