What to know about Florida basketball:

The Gators dominated the 2025 SEC Tournament, winning by double-digits against top-25 Missouri and top-10 Alabama, and dominated the Tennessee Volunteers in the Tournament final, winning by 9 points to cut down the nets in Nashville.

The Gators have four scorers who average double-figures, averaging 85.4 PPG with a 10-man rotation.

Led by AP first-team All-American guard Walter Clayton Jr., who has been as consistent as they come and one of the best guards in the country, especially as of late, winning SEC Tournament MVP averaged 17.5 PPG on the season to lead the Gators with leading the team in assists as well while shooting 37.7% from deep. Down low, the Gators are led by 6″11 big Alex Condon, who leads the team averaging 7.9 rebounds a game with seven double-doubles on the season and is gaining traction to be a first-round draft pick in the NBA.

Other pieces in this team include 2023 Final Four starter Alijah Martin from Florida Atlantic, who has averaged 14.5 PPG in his first year in the Swamp, and Belmont transfer Will Richard, who has tons of experience and is in year two at Florida, who has averaged 13.6 PPG.

Florida has been one of the best teams on the glass this season when it comes to rebounding margin. It is ranked 9th in the country with 42.0 RPG and a margin of 8 per game to opponents. It is also 12th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game, averaging almost 14 a game. This has led to tons of second-chance opportunities and tired teams out.

The Gators have some of the best regular-season wins in the country, dominating Alabama on the road, Auburn on the road, and Tennessee at home. The Gators’ non-conference was not tough, but going 16-0 is not easy. They checked all the boxes as an elite team when conference play started.

Florida has one of the best stories in the country right now with Micah Handlogten, who is a 7″1 Junior who had a gruesome knee injury last season and worked his tail off all off-season to get back and be a depth piece on the team in around 15 minutes per game has averaged 5.0 rebounds a game with a significant presence in the lane.

NCAA Tournament prediction for Florida basketball: National Champion

Seed: 1

Florida Gators are entering the Tournament as one of the best teams in the country and the most consistent teams lately on the offensive and defensive ends of the court. They have all the pieces to win: depth, scoring, coaching, and size. Gators have also gone through the gauntlet that is the SEC and came out on top, with the league getting 14 teams in the Tournament.

Entering the Tournament, Florida basketball is the number one team in offensive efficiency and the ninth best in defensive efficiency, per Kenpom. Free throws are important in March, and as a team, they shoot 71.8% at the line and have been reliable for the majority of the season.

Florida will have a tough path to the top of the mountain, with teams like UConn, St. John’s, Texas Tech, and Kansas all standing in their way to yet again reach the peak of the sport and be a party like it was in 2006 and 2007.
