Latest on Indiana basketball:

The Hoosiers are coming off of yet another devastating loss in Assembly Hall. On Saturday afternoon, Indiana lost to Michigan with a final score of 70-67. At halftime, they were down 43-27, but were eventually able to tie the score at 59 with about four minutes left to play. However, they came up short even after Anthony Leal’s half court buzzer beater. As this was the Hoosier’s fifth loss in a row, they will be looking to break that streak against Michigan State.

Malik Reneau led the way for Indiana against Michigan with 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists. Also a notable performance was Mackenzie Mgbako, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

This was Indiana’s first time taking the floor since the announcement of head coach Mike Woodson’s retirement at the end of the season. There have been no further details announced about who will take Woodson’s place going into next season.

Latest on Michigan State basketball:

Michigan State is currently 10-2 in conference play. Their two Big Ten losses come from USC, with a final score of 70-64, and UCLA, with a final score of 63-61. In their most recent game against Oregon, they were able to come out on top with a final score of 86-74. Freshman guard Jase Richardson led the way in points for the Spartans, finishing with 29 and junior forward Jaxon Kohler led the way in rebounds, finishing with 12. Richardson is averaging 10.4 points a game and Kohler is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game. Currently, Jaden Akins is the leading scorer for Michigan, averaging 13.4 points per game.

Michigan State has one player on their roster that hails from the Hoosier state and that player is sophomore forward Xavier Booker. Booker is from Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated from Cathedral High School in 2023. This season he is averaging 6.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

The Spartans are led by head coach Tom Izzo who is in his 30th of coaching and certainly has earned his status as an all time great. He is the first men’s basketball coach in history to lead his team to 26 straight NCAA Tournament appearances. On Tuesday night, Izzo will have the opportunity to become the Big Ten’s all time winningest coach. Who’s record is he breaking? Indiana legend coach Bob Knight.
