UConn basketball will look to add a quality victory to their resume over a well-coached Creighton basketball team. This has been one of the best rivalries in the new Big East and the toughest conference opponent for UConn.

Their last matchup was an 85-66 beatdown in Omaha where Creighton manhandled UConn, giving UConn their last defeat of the season. UConn basketball went on to win 13 consecutive games, culminating in a National Championship.

The Creighton Bluejays lead the all-time series 7-2 with a majority of the matchups coming down to the wire. The teams have split their last 4 meetings with the home team winning each matchup. The Huskies will look to win their third straight matchup in Gampel Pavilion over Creighton.

What to know about Creighton:

There were very high expectations for this Creighton Bluejays team coming into the season. Ryan Kalkbrenner and Steven Ashworth were key returners for a team that made the Sweet 16 the previous year. Pairing this with a top transfer Pop Isaacs and the Bluejays were considered a Final Four contender.

A three-game skid early in the season over Nebraska, San Diego State, and Texas A&M saw Creighton fall out of the AP Poll and they have not returned since. Things began to look up after Creighton knocked off No.1 Kansas in Omaha, but that win came with a huge loss.

Star transfer Pop Isaacs went down with an injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the season after averaging over 16 ppg, a devastating blow to a team that had expectations of making their first Final Four in program history.

The Bluejays have rebounded however, and come into the contest in Storrs having won 4 of their last 5 games with great wins over Villanova and St. John’s. Creighton appears to have righted the ship and will be a tough matchup for the Huskies.

Ryan Kalkbrenner will give Samson Johnson and Tarris Reed all they can handle and being able to slow down Kalkbrenner has to be the focus point for UConn. Steven Ashworth has also been playing phenomenal basketball and has been doing his best Tristen Newton imitation, flirting with triple-doubles on a nightly basis.

This is a top heavy Creighton basketball team however and if UConn is able to slow down Ashworth and Kalkbrenner it should be smooth sailing for UConn. UConn basketball has much more depth and over the course of the game should be able to wear down the Bluejays.

Latest on UConn basketball:

UConn basketball returns to Gampel Pavilion following their 68-60 victory at Georgetown. A win against the Bluejays should catapult the Huskies to an extended winning streak as they are approaching a soft part of their schedule with very winnable matchups against Butler, Xavier, and Depaul on the horizon.

This is going to be a must watch game and Gampel Pavilion will be rocking as it’s a a “white out” game and $2 beer night. This should be a back and forth contest but expect UConn basketball to pull away down the stretch.
