Latest on Georgetown basketball:
Head coach Ed Cooley has led the Hoyas to a resurgence. Last year, the team had a 9-23 overall record and a 2-18 conference record. Now, they are at .500 in conference play.
Georgetown has a 2-3 record in the team’s last five games. Their previous two wins came against Xavier (69-63) and Coppin State (83-53). That pair of wins closed a five-game win streak that started when the team beat Syracuse by 75-71.
The Hoyas boast three players who average among the top 20 in scoring for the Big East conference.
Thomas Sorber leads the team with 14.2 points (15th in the Big East) while leading the conference in boards with 8.6 rebounds. He is joined by Peavy who averages 13.8 points (17th in the Big East) and 2.4 steals which is second in the conference.
Another key player is Malik Mack who averages 13.6 points (19th in the Big East) and 4.7 assists, good for seventh in the conference.
Georgetown’s season is a huge improvement from the previous year, something the home team looks to improve concerning conference games.
Latest on DePaul basketball:
The Blue Demons have not won a game since their final non-conference win against the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds (84-65). Since then, the team has been searching for their first conference win since the 2022-2023 season.
However, this year has improved for DePaul, who had a 3-29 record the previous season. Chris Holtmann has helped bring this team to a 9-9 record. However, the team is the only one in the Big East without a conference win.
Besides two blowout losses to Villanova (56-100) and St. John’s (61-89), their conference matchups have been competitive, especially against Marquette and Providence.
The Blue Demons this season remain a consistent threat from the perimeter, averaging 37.3% which is third in the Big East. They also remain one of the best playmaking teams, averaging 17.6 assists (second in the conference). Yet, they also average the second most turnovers in the Big East (13.2 turnovers). That is ahead of only the Hoyas who average 13.8 turnovers.
DePaul vs Georgetown prediction: Blue Demons by 9
The Blue Demons have struggled on the road, not winning any games outside Chicago this season. However, they face a team that has struggled since conference matchups began.
Other than a shocking 81-57 upset victory over Creighton, Georgetown hasn’t played dominant basketball against their conference foes. Besides that victory, all their conference games have ended with a less than 10-point difference. Holtmann guaranteed a conference win was coming for the Blue Demons and this is one of the best chances for that to happen.
