What to know about Hofstra:
The Pride are coming off a 79-61 loss at Florida State, which snapped their four game win streak to start the season. Hofstra received one vote in this week’s AP poll to tie for 47th nationally. Sophomore guard Jean Aranguren leads Hofstra with 18 points per game, along with 6.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists. Head coach and alum Speedy Claxton has a 70-35 record at Hofstra, currently in his fourth season with the team.

The Cougars jumped one spot in the AP poll up to #7 on Monday, marking 88 straight weeks in being ranked, the nation’s longest streak. Houston enters this contest after crushing Louisiana 91-45 on Nov. 13 where sophomore guard Terrance Arceneaux scored 14 points off the bench to lead UH. Graduate forward J’Wan Roberts is tied with graduate guard LJ Cryer for the lead in points per game (12.3).
Houston signed two five-star high school recruits during the week, which started on Thursday with Wasatch Academy guard Isiah Harwell, who is the No. 14 prospect according to ESPN100 and is among the nation’s top three shooting guard prospects. On Friday, UH signed Brennan high school point guard Kingston Flemings who is a top-25 student athlete and considered the nation’s best point guard.
There has only been one meeting between Houston and Hofstra, which came on Nov.9, 2021 where the Cougars won in overtime 83-75. It was the season opener that year and the Pride are the only team to force overtime vs UH in Fertitta Center.
