What to know about Detroit Mercy:

The Titans of Detroit Mercy currently sit at 2-1 with both of these wins coming at home. Last season the Titans had an abysmal 1-31 record; with their one win coming against IUPUI. This led to the program going in a different in the coaching realm as they hired Mark Montgomery this offseason. Montgomery most recently worked as an assistant under Tom Izzo at Michigan State and was chosen from a pool of 100 national candidates.

Under new leadership, Detroit Mercy has already doubled their win total from last season in just the first three games. Only three players from last years’ squad returned and this includes senior Mak Manciel. Manciel currently averages 19 PPG on 45% shooting. His 30-point performance in Detroit Mercy’s last game against Niagara was a crucial part of their 84-78 overtime win.

Latest on Toledo basketball:

The Rockets most recently defeated Wright State 86-77 last Wednesday. Sophomore Sonny Wilson continues his breakout season with his 20-point performance that led the way for Toledo. The Rockets had five players in double-figures in what went down as a balanced team performance. Toledo is currently on a two-game winning streak after they lost the season opener for the first time since 2020 with a 84-74 setback to Troy.

Wilson, Javan Simmons, Seth Hubbard, Isaiah Adams, and Sam Lewis all average double-digit points. One of the keys to success has been the lack of turnovers. The Rockets currently average ten turnovers per game and have kept their turnover total in single digits in each of the last two games. The Rocket’s have only played at home once this season and won’t return home until Nov. 30 when they take on Oakland.
