After pulling out a win that was like pulling teeth, Seton Hall basketball hopes to regroup against Fordham.

Seton Hall basketball is back at the Prudential Center for a Noon tip-off against a Fordham Rams team hoping to fare better than they did against St. John’s.

It’s the James Corrigan bowl – shoutout to a fellow Pirate fan who did his undergrad work at Fordham. He’ll be happy however this one goes.

Of course, Seton Hall is hoping it goes there way, but they’ll need to play better and fine-tune some things after a shaky start against Saint Peter’s. (Also the James Corrigan bowl, because he did some play-by-play work there.) What can’t this kid do?

Teams: Seton Hall (1-0) and Fordham (0-1)

What to know about Fordham

The Rams continue their Big East tour, after falling to St. John’s, 92-60 in their first game of the season. Jackie Johnson III led Fordham with 23 points, but even if he had 43 points, it wouldn’t have been enough. Fordham’s defense was atrocious, letting the Johnnies do whatever they wanted on offense.

The next highest scorer for Fordham was Joshua Rivera, with 11 points. While Seton Hall likely won’t make it a shootout of a game, you still can’t expect to have that much of a discrepancy on offense, especially against this SHU defense.

St. John’s scored 92 points on 54.5% shooting and hitting 9-of-26 from deep. They dished out 19 assists and outrebounded Fordham by eight.

The Rams haven’t been able to put together many competitive rosters lately in the Atlantic 10 and from their start against the Red Storm it looks like another long year.

But I wouldn’t count them out against Seton Hall. One of the things that got St. John’s out in front so much was because of Rams’ turnovers and the Red Storm’s ability to turn them into transition points.

Seton Hall basketball likes to play scrappy, so if Fordham can try to limit careless plays, it can takes away from transition offense and make the Pirates work for it in the halfcourt. Otherwise, a carefree Rams team won’t go very far against a Shaheen Holloway coached squad.

Latest on Seton Hall basketball

The Pirates got a nice break, having not played since Monday’s opening night win over Saint Peter’s.

Offense was hard to come by in that game, with the Hall scoring just 57 points on 14-of-44 shooting.

But we did learn some things about a new-look Pirates team. Guard Chaunce Jenkins can be a microwave and seems to be a crucial offensive piece for SHU. Yacine Toumi has some intriguing offensive game as well and could be a player to watch as the season moves along.

But there are still a lot of questions. Why did Zion Harmon only get three minutes? When will Isaiah Coleman be ready to go? Usually, Shaheen Holloway isn’t a man with a lot of answers, at least not up front for the media to run with. So going into Saturday’s contest with Fordham, we’ll probably have to learn more about this team by watching the game itself. Nothing’s going to be handed to us, reminiscent of Holloway’s coaching style.
