Alabama basketball’s quest to San Antonio begins with UNC-Asheville coming to Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama basketball opens up their season-opening three-game homestand by hosting the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs on Nov. 4 at  8 p.m. This is the first meeting between the two schools.

What to know about UNC-Asheville:

The Bulldogs are coming off a 22-12 campaign in the Big South Conference. They finished 2nd in conference play with a 12-4 record, the team fell to Longwood in the conference championship by a score of 85-59.

The team will not have Drew Pember, who led the team with 20.6 PPG and 8.2 RPG. The top returning player for the Bulldogs is Josh Banks, a senior guard out of Charlotte, NC, who averaged 12.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG, and 1.1 APG. Fletcher Abee is also another scoring threat as a senior guard out of Morganton, NC, who averaged 10.6 PPG, 1.6 RPG, and 1.3 APG. Head coach Mike Morrell is entering year seven at the helm and has led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.

The Tide ended their exhibition schedule with wins over Memphis and Wake Forest. Tons of guys were able to see action with newcomers like Labaron Philon, Derrion Reid, Cliff Omoruyi, and Aden Holloway giving glimpses to Tide fans on what to expect this season.

Mark Sears’s big return as one of the Wooden Award favorites this upcoming season and looks to improve on the defensive end after averaging 21.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 4.0 APG while shooting 43.6 3P%.

In the second half versus Memphis after getting up by as much as 20 at the half Alabama seemed to let off the intensity, and that did not please Head Coach Nate Oats.

“I was not happy with those last 20 minutes was not where we needed to be mentally,” said Oats.

Alabama fans will get to see Grant Nelson, Latrell Wrightsell Jr., and Aden Sherell in action for the first time with all expected to be playing on minutes restrictions coming off injuries before the season.
