Syracuse basketball picked up its third commitment in the class of 2025. Luke Fennell, a 6-foot-6 combo guard, announced his commitment on Tuesday.

The Australian native chose the Orange over offers from Louisville, Florida, California, and St. Bonaventure.

Fennell is currently on a player development contract in Australia’s National Basketball League, with the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

He also played with the Centre of Excellence in the Albert Schweitzer Tournament in Germany, who won the gold medal. Fennell averaged 8.4 points per game, led the team in assists averaging 2.4 per game and added 3.1 rebounds to his stat line.

His commitment adds to an already strong 2025 class that includes five-star forward Sadiq White and 6-foot-5 guard Aaron Womack.

Where does Luke Fennell fit in with Syracuse Basketball?

Along with the commitment of Aaron Womack, Fennell joins a talented group of guards.

Junior JJ Starling will have the shooting guard position locked up if he decides to return for his senior season with the Orange in 2025-26.

Chance Westry is also returning for the Orange at the position. He will be playing in his first season with Syracuse after missing the entirety of last season with an injury, along with former four star Elijah Moore.

Combo guard Luke Fennell has proven that he is able to run an offense and score anywhere on the floor. In an interview with ESPN, Fennell mentioned his energy as one of his best attributes.

Fennell should also fit in well with Syracuse’s style of play from behind the arc. Across 15 games with the Centre of Excellence in 2024, he averaged 40% from three. He also averaged 15 points in the same season.

Before arriving in Syracuse for his freshman year, Fennell may have another opportunity to play for the Australian National Team in the 2025 FIBA under-19 World Cup.

The Orange are now awaiting four star guard Kiyan Anthony’s announcement, who is also in the class of 2025.
