Sitting at 0-4 in TBT play, Dubois Dream looks to finally break the streak and come out on top
TBT hasn’t been pretty for this team. They sit at 0-4, and last year they really felt like they figured something out. As the 8 seed, they took on Best Virginia, the one seed. The two teams went back and forth, but unfortunately for Dubois Dream, Best Virginia squeaked out a two-point win.
This year, they’re back, and they’re feeling confident. Led by the Weathers’ brothers, Dubois Dream not only want to win their first game but also the million dollar prize.

Team MVP: Marcus Weathers
In last year’s TBT game against Best Virginia, Weathers was pretty much unstoppable. He scored 23 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and added two steals and a block. They had no answer for him, and that won’t change this year. At 6’5, he doesn’t have the height that most high-level rebounders possess, but he has the drive and goes for everyone. He takes smart shots and isn’t scared of the moment. If Dubois Dream plays through Weathers, good things will happen.
Defensively, it’ll be interesting who they match him up with. He plays taller than he is, so they might put him against a 6-7 or 6-8 forward. He should handle his own, and that would cause an offensive mismatch since he has the shiftiness to capitalize on this. Dubois Dream will need another performance like this to earn their first win, and he is more than capable of it.
Make-or-break Player: Michael Weathers
There’s a Brotherly Love team from Pennsylvania in this tournament, but they might not compete with this brotherly duo for the title. Michael went for 23 himself last year, and added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. As you can see, Weathers is a stat sheet stuffer and does everything his team needs to succeed. At 6’3, he’s the team’s point guard and will make sure he finds his teammates, including his brother Marcus for the best shot possible.
Every Batman needs his Robin, and Michael will have to be Marcus’ Robin once again for this Dubois Dream team to succeed. They’ve built a better team than last year, so if they can replicate what they did last year, and add more talent, they can finally break that streak. It’ll be hard to replicate, as that was one performance of any player in last year’s TBT, but he is more than capable.
Team Outlook
As mentioned earlier, Dubois Dream will do anything to break that streak. To do so, they’ll have to beat the Happy Valley Hoopers, the Penn State alumni team. This game is in Pittsburgh, so both teams will have a homecourt advantage, but the alumni-based team will likely have the crowd behind them. If they can win that game, they’d most likely face Stars of Storrs, the UConn Alumni team who as a program can’t stop winning.
Finally, they’d have to go up against Zoo Crew, the University of Pittsburgh alumni team on their home court. The road won’t be easy, but they’re ready. They bring in a variety of players who played on other teams last year and succeeded. This includes David Shriver, who scored 11 for Ram Nation, and Taylor Persons, who averaged 10.5 a game for Fort Wayne Champs. The experience of those two will certainly help and make the team better.
If you like an underdog, root for the Dubois Dream, as hopefully they can finally get that first win in the record book.
