Team DRC

Here for their 5th TBT appearance, Team DRC looks to shake off a rough 2023 and replicate their early success

When Team DRC entered the tournament in 2018, they looked great, winning two games, then doing it again the year after. Since then, they haven’t been able to achieve that success, losing in 2021 and last year by 15. They cleaned the house, returning just one player from last year’s team. Hopefully, with the new roster, they can go on a run and get back to winning.

Team MVP: Darius Washington

It’s been a minute since Washington played in college, leaving in 2005-2006, but he’s been a great player since. He averaged 23.5 PPG overseas in 2013-2014 and is still averaging double digits during his latest stint. At 38, he might not have the legs he used to have, but he’s still very skillful. He’s a high-volume three-point shooter but can make them.

Make-or-break Player: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

This isn’t DRC’s first sport, but at 6’2 with a 4.29 40-yard dash, he has the size and athleticism to compete. Unsurprisingly, he is the only player from last year’s team still around, and in that game, he scored just 3 points. It’s what he does off the court that makes him make or break.

DRC is the glue for Team DRC. He’ll be a leader on and off the court, and with his experience, he knows every single scenario there is in TBT and will prepare his team for it. Having a coach on the floor is what helps the team be great, and he can do exactly that for his team.

Team Outlook

To be completely honest, on paper, this might be the worst team in the tournament. As mentioned earlier, they have no chemistry from last year and no players that stand out. With that being said, it’s the TBT, and anything can happen. All you need is a few players to get hot and a couple of big shots in the Elam Ending and you can beat any team.

If they want to win a game, Team DRC will have to do it as an 8 seed. They take on another famous athlete’s team Team Diesel, which is run by Shaq. Then they can run into another athlete’s team in Team Fredette right after that. The road will be tough for Team DRC, but they’ve done it before, and they know they can do it again.
