The Basketball Tournament 2024: DaGuys STL Team Profile

DaGuys STL is still searching for the team’s first win in The Basketball Tournament.

With 48.3K Youtube subscribers, DaGuys STL have by far the most YouTube followers of any team in the tournament. From a basketball standpoint, they haven’t been the best, going 0-2 in their tournament careers. In its first year, DaGuys STL had a close loss to Team Arkansas 72-69 in Omaha. Last year, the team came to Wichita, faced off against a “hometown” favorite in Purple & Black, and suffered their second loss, 72-59. In this game, DaGuys STL could not find its offense, shooting 31.9% from the field and 16.7% from 3-point range.

This team brings back most of its core and adds six additional players: Dishon Lowery, Earl Barron, Jackson Dubinski, Martavian Payne, Terrence Hargrove, and Zach Andrews. Barron and Andrews are both NBA professionals. The biggest name of note from this group is The Basketball League player Martavian Payne. He averaged 18.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals for the St. Louis Griffins. However, DaGuys STL returns its leading scorers from last year’s return in Jordan Barnett, Courtney Stockard, and De’Marco Owens. The YouTube sensation is hoping to log their first win in year three.

Current Roster:

Coaching Staff:

Region: Dayton

All-time Record: 0-2

First Matchup: vs. Red Scare (July 20 at 5 p.m. on Fox Sports 1)

Team MVP: Jordan Barnett

Jordan Barnett has been a member of DaGuys STL for all three years. He has the length and scoring ability that makes him difficult to guard. He does so many things well. Barnett can score from anywhere but also finds his teammates for better buckets. While his offense is massive, his rebounding truly makes him the MVP. Barnett comes down with the ball more often than not. He led the team last year in rebounds with nine a game. Barnett’s ability to end the possession for the opposition and extend the position for his team provides an opportunity, and they’ll need just that if they want to earn their first win.

Make-or-break Player: Martavian Payne

Payne is coming from TBL and has been playing this year with a player who will likely be a starting guard for this team. He is coming in and will likely be the opposite of Josh Webster. While neither are sharpshooters, these two players will have excellent ball movement. Payne will be cutting and driving to score, but he will still have his eyes open to find a potentially better shot. With the size of the wings and center, there is a chance for dump-off plays and easy buckets. Payne could pull defenses and allow for mismatches.

Team Outlook

Yet again, DaGuys STL gets a difficult draw. The good news is that fans of this team from St. Louis will have the shortest drive. Going to Dayton and having a low level of travel could be beneficial. The bad news is that this team is taking on the hometown team. Red Scare would be the 1-seed had Heartfire, the defending champion,  not been in this region.

Another play to watch is De’Marco Owens, who scored 10 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and added two blocks in their loss last year. Hopefully, the team’s Youtube channel will be loaded with content as they make a deep run, and not the single video we’ve unfortunately seen the last two years.
