CBB Review hands out awards for each conference tournament in 2024. Up next: The MAAC Tournament.
All things considered, my MAAC Tournament preview wasn’t too shabby as I picked Saint Peter’s to go to the semifinals and Fairfield to make it to the championship. Of course, the Peacocks wound up winning the chip, but in Atlantic City, anything can happen, so I’ll cut my losses (get it).
CBB Review MAAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player
Corey Washington Jr., Saint Peter’s
Washington is your typical Saint Peter’s playing. He’s the scorer by nature of being the top option on the team, but rebounding the basketball and playing tough defense are his best traits. In a conference dominated by guards, it was Washington who put the Peacocks on his back to help them win three games and advance to the Big Dance. We know what happened the last time they made it.
F: Corey Washington Jr., Saint Peter’s – 3 GP (14.3 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 1.0 APG, 1.7 BPG)
F: Paul Otieno, Quinnipiac – 2 GP (16.5 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 0.5 APG, 1.0 SPG, 77.8 FG%)
Saint Peter’s NCAA Tournament Prediction
Round of 64
This just isn’t the same Peacocks team we saw in 2022. Shaheen Holloway isn’t there. Doug Edert isn’t there. KC Ndefo isn’t there. And on the other side, Dalton Knecht and Tennesse are there. Of course, Saint Peter’s still brings a defensive identity and could keep this close for some of the first half. But Tennessee has too much leadership and have arguably the best player in the country. No Elite 8 run for the Peacocks this time around.
