Every weekend during the 2023-24 college basketball season, Dan Siegel will bring you his best bets!

Best Bet: DePaul +14.5 vs Iowa State

Yes, DePaul is bad. Like bad to the point where the Big East is embarrassed to claim them. That said, 14.5 points is too much to give Iowa State on the road.

Torvik agrees with this logic the most emphatically, predicting just a 8.8 point difference between these two squads. Haslametrics also leans towards DePaul, while Shot Quality indicates the Blue Demons are due for some positive regression.

Most importantly, we are not quite sold on the Cyclones as much as Vegas is. Their two games against high major competition consisted of losses to Virginia Tech and Texas A&M. Albeit, they were competitive, but in both games, they were in control early on but did not have the offensive firepower to cement their lead.

You may look at Iowa State’s team profile and argue that they have impressive stats such as two-point percentage, defensive turnover rate, and rebounding. In reality, these were mightily inflated by their early games against some of the lowest ranked teams in the country.

We are not suggesting the Blue Demons have it in them to win this game but rather insisting that the Cyclones will not pull away.
