Just two weeks ago, Texas Tech was in the thick of the Big 12 title race and contending for a top 2 seed in the big dance. Since then, TTU has lost 4 straight, and Kansas once again clinched their 14th straight regular-season Big 12 title.
On Monday night, it was all about the Mountaineer seniors. Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles led the way for WVU, as Carter scored 21 points on 8-14 shooting and Miles added 18 points on 5-10 shooting. Jarrett Culver led all scorers for TTU, as he dropped 26, but the Red Raiders were unable to combat their sub-par first half.
WVU jumped out to an early 16-0 lead, with TTU notching their first basket with 14;31 left off of a Niem Stevenson three-pointer. WVU led by as much as 20 in the first half, but TTU closed out the half down 42-29.
Texas Tech actually outscored West Virginia 45-42 in the second half, but couldn’t spoil Senior Night for the Mountaineers.
Texas Tech now drops to 22-8 overall, and 10-7 in conference. TTU currently sits 3rd in the Big 12, and plays their last conference game Saturday at home vs. TCU (4:00 PM ESPN2).
West Virginia improves to 22-8 overall and 11-6 in conference. The Mountaineers wrap up their regular season on the road vs. Texas (12:00 PM ESPN). After a bit of a slide in the middle of the conference season, the Mountaineers have won 3 straight. WVU will most likely head into Kansas City as the 2 seed, and will have a good chance of taking home the championship trophy.
