The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 269 is FDU basketball.
Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on FDU basketball
We all know FDU basketball for their incredible upset win over Zach Edey and 1-seed Purdue in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. But did you know their history is so much more?
The Knights have made it to March Madness seven times, with their first coming in 1985. Head coach Tom Green brought them there again in 1988, 1998, and 2005. He coached for 26 seasons as FDU, winning 407 games and is one of the most successful mid-major coaches of all time.
Fairleigh Dickinson made it twice under Greg Herenda, in 2016 and in 2019, and then famously under Tobin Anderson in 2023 – his only season as the man in charge.
Amazingly, six of their seven appearances in March Madness have been as 16 seeds, with their lone 15 seed in 1998.
Despite the March Madness success, there have been plenty of rough seasons in Teaneck. 15 of their 61 seasons in DI have ended in fewer than 10 wins. At just over 13 wins per season, having the 7 tourney appearances is a bit of an outlier to say the least.
Still, when you have one of the most famous upsets in the history of the game, you get some extra brownie points, and no one can forget that one day in March for the Knights.
