The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 316 is Stetson basketball.

Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on Stetson basketball

We head down to the state of Florida, where Stetson basketball comes in at No. 316!

The Hatters have had a consistent run, winning just over 13 games per season. However, they’ve only had one NCAA Tournament appearance from that, winning the Atlantic Sun Tournament in 2024. Since then, they’ve only had 20 wins over the past two seasons, so there’s no telling if the Donnie Jones era will last much longer.

The best era in Stetson basketball history was under longtime head coach Glenn Wilkes. Wilkes took over as head coach in 1957, stayed with the Hatters when they moved to DI in 1971, and retired in 1993. From 1968-90, he was also the Athletic Director.

It’s a shame Wilkes could never lead the Hatters to the NCAA Tournament, but he did have a 328-282 all-time record at the Division I level. That included a 22-4 campaign in 1974-75, and 13 of 22 seasons ended in winning records.

Stetson’s top college player was Kerry Blackshear, who was the A-Sun Player of the Year in 1995. Blackshear’s son, Kerry Blackshear Jr., enjoyed a great college career where he played at Virginia Tech and Florida.

Stetson basketball has a lot of history to look back on, and some great recent years, but other than that, not enough to place them over the top in these rankings.
