The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 315 is Elon basketball.
Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on Elon basketball
Elon basketball moved to Division I in 1999, and like many teams before them in these rankings, still doesn’t have a single NCAA Tournament appearance.
But the Phoenix have been pretty consistent, winning at least 10 games in all but 5 of their 27 seasons.
Elon saw its best run in the mid 2000s when head coach Matt Matheny took the job and won 151 games in 10 seasons, winning the SoCon regular season title in 2013. Matheny and Davidson’s Bob McKillop were named co-Coaches of the Year.
Since the program moved in a new direction in 2019, things haven’t been great, with just one winning season in 2024-25. However, Elon basketball continues to be at least somewhat decent, always good enough to compete with the best teams on any given night, and never really bad enough to be at the bottom of the conference.
That consistency is what puts Elon here at No. 315 in these rankings.
