Overall scoop on Alabama A&M basketball

The Bulldogs have been in DI for almost 30 years and do have one NCAA Tournament appearance, making it in 2005 and losing in what was then the only play-in game to Oakland. Obie Trotter was on that team and still is the all-time leading scorer in program history.

Of course, playing in the SWAC, it isn’t exactly a top-level conference, but it isn’t to say the Bulldogs haven’t had some noteworthy seasons. They had four winning seasons in their first seven tries and, after a long drought of losing seasons, went 18-15 this past year.

It’s also worth saying that after Vann Pettaway led the team for their first 13 seasons in DI, they’ve had five head coaches over the last 15. It’s tough to build a program with inconsistency in leadership, but it was an excellent first year for Donte Jackson, so we’ll see what that means for the near future.
