The college basketball offseason is here, and we decided to have some fun over the next few months, ranking ALL 364 teams in D1. Number 342 is Loyola (MD) basketball.

Before you say we’re crazy – or that all of this is up for debate, let’s go over the very intricate process of how we came to this conclusion. We took a very statistical approach – with the help of Chat GPT – taking into consideration everything from March Madness wins and finishes, to AP Poll appearances, to conference players of the year. And then, a good friend of ours, Scott Blanchard, took our approach to the MAX.

Overall scoop on Loyola (MD) basketball

The Greyhounds have been around for over eight decades and in that time frame have only made two NCAA Tournaments. The first came in 1994, with head coach Skip Prosser leading the way. Prosser would take a job at Xavier the following season and later on at Wake Forest.

In 2012, longtime head coach Jimmy Patsos led Loyola to the big dance. They went 24-9 that season, and for Patsos it was the first of two straight 20-win seasons. He would eventually move on to Siena.

Unfortunately, there haven’t been many other seasons to remember. In fact, just FIVE 20-win campaigns in 85 tries, and three of them came in the 1940s. Their last 20-win season was also their last winning season, coming in 2013.

But still, Loyola has produced a pair of NBA Draft picks. Mike Morrison in 1989 and recently, Santi Aldama in 2021, who has played in nearly 300 games. In fact, Aldama has turned into an everyday starter with the Memphis Grizzlies and averaged a career high of 14.0 points this season.

Right now, the Greyhounds have had back-to-back 12-win seasons under Josh Loeffler, hoping to find some life next year.
