The Jayhawks are sixth in the Big 12 standings currently with two games left. Kansas went 4-4 over the last month, with a couple of shocking losses on the road versus Utah and Kansas State before losing by 34 to no. 23 BYU in Provo, Utah. The Jayhawks have won two out of their last three, vs the 14th place team in the conference Oklahoma State and last place Colorado before losing at home to no. 9 Texas Tech 78-73.
Senior forward KJ Adams had 21 points and 13 rebounds while senior center Hunter Dickinson had 18 points and nine rebounds. Dickinson leads Kansas this season with 16.9 PPG and 9.8 RPG and senior guard Zeke Mayo is second with 14 PPG. Senior point guard Dajuan Harris Jr, a starter on the 2022 national championship winning team, leads the Jayhawks with 5.8 APG. Freshman Flory Bidunga adds 1.6 blocks per game as well.
Head coach Bill Self is in his 22nd season with Kansas and is 1-3 vs Houston in his career. Self is also 3-6 vs Kelvin Sampson. The Jayhawks lead the all time series 6-4, but the Cougars have won the last two meetings. Houston won the last matchup in an incredible double overtime game, 92-86 in Allen Fieldhouse on Jan. 25. The Cougars came back from multiple two possession leads with under a minute to go in regulation and the first overtime, creating one of the most improbable wins in college basketball this season.
Kansas has lost four out of their last five road games, and are just 4-7 on the road this season. Going into Fertitta Center, one of the toughest environments in college basketball and trying to get a win will not be easy.

The Cougars have won 21 out of their last 22 games, and are coming off a 73-64 win over Cincinnati on Saturday, which clinched the second straight outright Big 12 regular season title for Houston. This Big Monday game is senior night for the program, as graduate forward J’Wan Roberts, graduate guard LJ Cryer, graduate guard Mylik Wilson, senior forward Ja’Vier Francis and senior guard Ramon Walker III get recognized in a ceremony pre-game. Houston’s 2025 senior class has earned 122 total wins along with five conference championships.
This will be the third home game vs Kansas, with Houston winning the last two at home. The Cougars beat the Jayhawks 76-46 in the first meeting between the teams in Fertitta Center last March, where Houston clinched their first Big 12 regular season title as a result of the win. This will be an emotional game for many, with it being the last home game of Roberts’, Cryer’s and Wilson’s careers.
