IU is coming off of a rough weekend in the Bahamas at the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament finishing in 7th place out of 8. They remain home at Assembly Hall for their second game in a row.
Game Information:
Teams: Indiana (6-2) and Miami (OH) (5-2)
Tip Time: 7 p.m. EST
Latest on Miami (OH) basketball:
Miami has maintained a solid 5-2 record. They travel to Bloomington coming off three wins- over Siena, Mercer, and Air Force. They suffered a rough loss to the Michigan Wolverines before these wins.
It’s essential to note that during their most recent game, there was an obvious superstar- junior guard Peter Suder. He broke his previous point record of 24 when he reached 42 on Dec. 2. Suder hit 17 of 21 FGs, made 3 of 4 from outside the arc, and had free-throw line success 5 of 9 times. By the end of the first half, Suder was responsible for 17 of the 20 points on the board for Miami (OH). It’s clear that he dominated offensively in this game against Air Force and can pose a threat to opponents. This looked necessary here for the Redhawks as he was their only player to reach double digits. Aside from that game, five players- including Suder- have rankings in the Mid-American Conference for various categories.
The team overall took the 73-60 win by shooting 56.6% from the field, 30.8% outside the arc, and 60.0% from the free throw line. They closed out the game with a 17-8 run against Air Force.
Latest on Indiana basketball:
Indiana has just come off a 97-71 victory over Sam Houston. The team had a solid performance. Some individuals stood out against the Bearkats. Myles Rice led the team with 19 points- 15 of which were scored in the second half. Trailing with 18 points each was Malik Reneau, and a stellar performance that excited Hoosier fans was Luke Goode. He brought energy to the court- especially when he sunk 5 of his 7 shots from behind the arc.
“Tonight we benefitted from Goode making shots,” said head coach Mike Woodson.
IU’s bench has also stepped it up considering how Trey Galloway has performed strongly as a starter. He has played in Kanaan Carlyle’s starting position since Carlyle’s recent lower-body injury.
“Everybody off the bench played well,” said Woodson. He was very pleased with the bench’s numbers.
For fans, this game was a sigh of relief as the Hoosiers didn’t fare very well in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. Their two losses- the first to Louisville and then Gonzaga, also knocked them out of the top 25. They went into the tournament ranked 14th. The turnover rate last game was a bit concerning as they recorded 9 just in the first half. Woodson recognizes that they need to do a better job keeping the ball. The Hoosiers hope to improve their record to 7-2 when they play Miami (OH).
Indiana has averaged about 80 points per game while Miami (OH) falls short of that with 74. Even so, Indiana hasn’t had too large of a margin of victory in their games this season, so it’s essential that the Hoosiers perform well on defense and lock down the Redhawk’s offensive standout, Suder. With simple fixes and eliminating communication errors, Indiana should come out on top.
