What to Know about UNH

The New Hampshire Wildcats have already played two games this season against UMass (loss, 103-74) and UMass-Boston (win, 99-69). The Wildcats are coached by Nathan Davis, who is in his second year with the program following eight seasons at Bucknell. In those eight season, Davis led his team to two NCAA tournament berths and is ramping up to get his first at New Hampshire. With that being said, March Madness may need to wait another year for the Wildcats as they’re the last place team in the American East Preseason Poll, but the program is led by a successful coach who has proven he can turn a program around.

New Hampshire is led by transfer guard Anthony McComb III who saw limited play time in his first two collegiate seasons at Bowling Green, but has been playing well averaging 16.5 PPG in his first two appearances for the Wildcats. Another notable player is transfer and international stud Sami Pissis out of Paris, France. Sami is currently tied with McComb at 16.5 PPG and nearly had a triple-double in the UMass-Boston game as he finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Latest on UConn Basketball

Don’t be surprised to see a new starting lineup for the Huskies in this matchup. Head Coach Dan Hurley is clearly tinkering with his rotations after making a comment in his last post-game presser that Jayden Ross would have started in the opener had he been healthy. Factor in Tarris Reed Jr.’s monster performance and there is a chance that either of those two are on the court for tip-off.

Another player who may see some extended run on the court is freshman Ahmad Nowell. Nowell had his share of positive moments on Wednesday while fellow guards Aidan Mahaney and Hassan Diarra struggled. Nowell is still clearly third in the depth chart, but he has an opportunity to carve out a bench role for himself if he can build off his 4 point, 3 rebound performance.

When it comes to injuries, Liam McNeeley is clearly at 100% after an 18 point double-double in his Husky debut. Jayden Ross missed the opener due to an ankle injury, but is reportedly doing a lot better and has a serious chance at playing in this contest on Saturday night. Dan Hurley has shared a lot of praise for Ross recently and UConn basketball fans are eager to see the sophomore get on the floor.
