Wichita Improves Against Memphis
No. 23 Wichita State Shockers pushed past No. 21 Memphis Tigers 76-67 in Kansas after sophomore Jamarius Burton scored 16 points to lead Wichita to the win.
Freshman Tiger, Precious Achiuwa stole the entire show with 22 points but it wasn’t enough to give Memphis the extra push even with the help of freshman Tyler Harris who scored 17 points.
Wichita ran out with a 23-11 lead before Memphis knew what hit them which allowed the shockers to keep the lead throughout the game.
With 12 minutes left in the matchup, a three pointer kept the Shockers in the lead by 19 points which essentially sealed the fate of the game.
Memphis was one for 13 from beyond the arch in the first half which hurt them in the end even thought they made 12 of the 15 free throws before they hit half time.
The Tigers have another chance to redeem themselves against Wichita on March 5th, 2020.
This victory gives Wichita the upper hand when it comes to the early lead for the Atlantic Costal Conference title where they now sit first and 2-0 in conference play.
Up next, Memphis will play at South Florida and Wichita will take on UConn in Connecticut on Sunday, January 12th.
