Alabama Falls to Pennsylvania in Season Opener
With six seconds left of the game, University of Pennsylvania Quakers freshman Jordan Dingle shot and scored lifting Penn to an 81-80 win over the University of Alabama Crimson Tide at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Alabama sophomore Kira Lewis Jr. scored the lead 3-pointer with less than three seconds on the clock and had a game overall of 30 points, but Penn answered back and took the lead again.
Lewis Jr. missed both free throws which would have secured the first win of the season for new head coach, Nate Oats.
The Crimson Tide led by six in the first half with four minutes left, but Penn started a 24-11 run that they kept going into the second half.
Basket after basket, each team answered each other with many three-point shots that would give them a small lead.
Alabama struggled defensively after Herbert Jones one of the top defenders on the team left the game with an elbow injury in the first half which caused him to stay out of the second.
Outscoring the Crimson Tide in the paint by 42-30, Penn picks up its first win over an SEC opponent since the 1996-97 season.
Up next, Alabama will host the Florida Atlantic University Owls and try to achieve their first regular season victory early on in the season.
Penn will face the Rice University Owls in Houston, TX as they look to potentially start a winning streak.
