Gonzaga Locks Down on Florida State in Sweet 16
Gonzaga University Bulldogs (No. 1) punched their ticket to the Elite Eight against Florida State University Seminoles (No. 4) with a 72-58 final score in the ACC-WCC conference match up at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Florida State started off the game with a two pointer, but was down the entire first and second half and couldn’t catch up to power house Gonzaga when it came to the scoreboard. With a high of 20 points, Seminoles junior, Trent Forrest out scored his opponents and the rest of his teammates. Both teams has very low three point percentages, but the free throws are what gave them a good amount of numbers on the board.
The Bulldogs defense made it hard for Florida State to cut through and make shots which left huge gaps in between each time they did end up making a basket. Both teams racked up the personal fouls which gave the players and opportunity to gain extra points. Gonzaga senior, Josh Perkins made the final points and free throws of the game which secured the win an Elite Eight spot.
Going into the match up, the Seminoles knew they needed to produce one of the best on-court performances they could possibly do in order to get past a solid offensive and defensive team like Gonzaga. In the regular and post-season, the Bulldogs performed like they were always striving for the finish line and proved that in most of their games.
Next up, Gonzaga will take on the winner of the No. 3 Texas Tech Red Raider and No. 2 Michigan Wolverines game to determine who is worthy of becoming one step closer to the NCAA Tournament Championship Title.
