The Eagles are Champions!

In a matchup of similar talent, the North Carolina Central Eagles beat the Norfolk State Spartans 50-47 in the MEAC championship finale.

The Eagles edged out the North Carolina A&T Aggies 65-63 to advance to the Championship, while the Spartans beat the Howard Bison 75-69 to arrive at the final.

The Spartans hosted the Eagles in the Norfolk Scope Arena.

The game was highly competitive, as both the Spartans and the Eagles came into the game having averaged around the same number of PPG on offense (Spartans- 75, Eagles- 72).

The score was always consistently close, evidenced by the fact that the teams tied six different times.

Norfolk State started to pull away towards the end of the first half and left the half leading 32-22.

In the second half, the Eagles were able to catch up and tie the Spartans, and with eight minutes left, were able to pull away for the lead, and the eventual win.

North Carolina was led by senior Zacarry Douglas who scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds, and redshirt senior Raasean Davis who had 14 rebounds and 8 points. For the Spartans, sophomore Mastadi Pitt led the team with 14 points and redshirt junior Steven Whitley had 9 rebounds.

Besides the fact that the Spartans dominated in their Friday matchup against the Bison and the fact that they had the home crowd behind them, their offense was tested by North Carolina Central’s defense, which is ranked 64th in defensive efficiency.
